Transportation Connections

Athens Airport to Athens Hilton:

         Public Bus X95 to Evagelismos Metro stop 3,60 each

         Watch your wallet - pickpockets were on the bus

 

Athens Hilton to Acropolis and Ferry:

         Metro http://www.amel.gr/index.php?id=77&L=1 - 3,00 for 24 hour pass or 1,00 per trip  

 

Blue Star Ferry from Athens (Piraeus) to Naxos:

        http://www.bluestarferries.com - 42,00 each for First Class (only available)

        7:00AM to 12:55PM (5 hours & 55 minutes)

        Not unpleasant, but due to the length of the trip, next time we would fly

 

Anek Ferry from Naxos to Santorini (Thira):

         http://www.booking.anek.gr - 12,7 each for Deck Seating

        9:00AM to 12:10PM (3 hours & 10 minutes)

 

Santori Public Bus:

         One way fare for most destinations 1,40

         Purchase tickets aboard

 

Flight from Santorini to Athens:

         45 minute flight

         NEΦEΛH Cafe on the way from the subway station to the Acropolis - Assorted 1 sandwiches!

         Μεζεδοπωλειον Το φιλεμα - really good local food, friendly server

o    Good traditional Greek Food near the port  

          ΔΑΝΑΚΟΣ, One street off of Sea Road, Chora, Naxos 

o    American Staff, very friendly, had lots of advice

         Ο ΓΙΑΝΝΣ Tavern Halki

o    Good food, large portions

o    Outdoor seating, too many yellow jackets to enjoy the meal

         Il Girasole Pizzeria,  Sea Road, Chora, Naxos

o    Decent Italian Pizza, sidewalk entertainment

 

Santorini

        Panos, Short walk from Artemis Village Hotel

o    Fresh Seafood, traditional Greek Food

        Camille Stefani, Fira

         αγορα της αδριανου εσ τια τοριο - just outside the acropolis near the museum - friendly staff

 

Naxos

         Mojo - near port - great place to watch the sunset - drinks are expensive, wine was skunky

         Fragile - tucked away in the alley near the port, a night spot to watch Greek dancing

         ΤΖωννης - accessible by scooter - staff speaks very little English but very friendly - old wheel-well in courtyard

         Flamingo - sunset view over the port, friendly waiter engaged us in Greek dancing

         ο Ντεμπελης - outdoor seating - view of mountains

 

Santorini

         Arcobaleno - Nice view of volcano, drinks are expensive

         The Flame of the Volcano - On the walk from Imerovigli to Fira

         Portioli - near the bus stop in Fira

Activities

Athens Acropolis

         12 Ticket allows entrance to all major monuments

         Sunscreen and an umbrella for shade are good ideas in the summer months

Naxos

         Naxos Moto Rent - 10/day for scooters & 20/day for 4-wheelers - includes helmets and insurance

         Fish & Olive Pottery Creations - Halki Village - Gallery and Shop

 

Santorini

         Walk from Imerovigli to Fira - Bus toward Oia (1,40) - get off at Imerovigli & walk toward cliffs

o    Beautiful walk along the cliff among the houses, hotels & restaurants  

         Santo Winery

o    Tour & Wine tasting  

o    Only light snacks available at snack bar
